Video Premier - When I'm on Xmass Break

We will release the 2008 EXPO Racing vid on December 18! Stay tuned cause this one is all out High Def. You'll want a DVD copy fo-shizzle to play on that super big wide screen you got sitting at home.

Man, is it crazy the work load I have on my back at the moment. I have no doubt I'll finish it proper. I hope there are peoples out there getting in my lost miles.

You could say rest is good, however the pounds are rendering it bad. Winter break, here I come!

Still Alive

Looks like this little 3week stint of schoolish stuff is turning out to be my "off season". Too much studying and not enough riding. Soon come.

Something was just sent out in the mail today that requires an answer to the question: "What is your favorite color?"

The weather here by lake Michigan is really trying to creep its way into the snow storm we all desire. Remember those days in grade school? When you'd go to bed with the hopes of a Snow Day the next morning...Staring down the TV screen at 5am, waiting and waiting for your school to scroll across the bottom.

So far the weather doesn't look like it is going to help those of us by the lake.

1" Margins

So far this week:

Over 40 pages of typed goodness that doesn't mean a thing.

No bike in the past two days has me hurting(three including today). The snow covered roads I have outside are just screaming my name and I honestly can't afford to give myself to them.

Lunch break over - See Ya!

Quiet the Week

School is coming down hard on me as I type. Massive projects due daily. Late nights with me and coffee. Sponsor work as desert.

Short posts are in order.

Later.

Do your own Today

Scratch the Alleycat, cause most of y'all can't handle that portion of the words above. It wouldn't hurt to get out on that bike today or tomorrow to do your own little version of Cranksgiving. I mean, today IS Thanksgiving. Enjoy the family and friends this weekend.

WI CX State Championship

Three EXPO faithful made the trip out to compete in the Wisconsin Cyclocross State Championships in Hales Corners, WI(Who would have guessed WI?) this past Sunday:

Aris "I'm Faster Than You" Peters competed in the Junior State race. He had to fight off Mitch Bogardus(get used to that name), who was hot on his heels the entire race, for a second place.

Jeff Frings capped off his super weekend with a second place in the Cat 4, 40+ race. It was actually a third place, however actual second was from IL. So, jeff got to stand on the second highest box for awards, due to the title of the race.

Kyle Warras (2009 EXPO Junior) took 22nd in the Cat 4's. This was his second time on the bike in months(High school CC) and his second ever cross race. I think he is hooked on Cross.

The commute home was an absolute blast. I was lit up like a Xmass tree thanks to the new blinky acquisitions. Snow was falling, streets were shining, air was crisp, the bike was flawless and I was dressed perfect. All smiles as I type. This pic, or this Bender, should put you in the mood. Get out there.

An EXPO Update

Cranksgiving

A very nice crowd showed for Milwaukee's first annual Cranksgiving. As the dude running the race started to hand out the manifests, I asked Jeff, "A or B?". Now my alleycat skills run right up there with the best of all the local messengers. I always manage to finish near the top, no matter what style alleycat is thrown my way. However, Jeff was attempting his first ever alleycat, wearing a "messenger bag" for his first time and was fresh off of a cold. I also make a pact to ride together with whomever decides to do an alleycat with me. So there you have it. We rode in class B cause Jeff said "B".

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about Ranchito Ride on Friday. Check it out here. We were at Sprizzo's and the cat at the counter was telling Ronsta about tomorrow's(Sat.) Cranksgiving. I was like Wa-wa-what?!?! Alleycat?! In my own backyard?! Awesome Friday lead to news about Cranksgiving lead to winning some sweet SWAG lead to wanting to end my 2008 season on a good note - lead to passing up WI CX Championships.

Race led us to 5 different local food stores. Our Manifest had four sections with two addresses in each. Each of the sections also had a different food item that we were required to purchase. We were to hit at least one store from each part and buy the required item. We also had to hit up any one of the remaining stops for a total of 5 stops and 5 food items.

Last stop - I got in the checkout line without any food. Jeff ran to get the required cans of corn. He brought it up to the register just in time. Cashier rang up first item(receipt was required for each). Done. Jeff grabbed and headed out the door. Second item rang up and I was out the door 30 seconds later. Jeff had started to roll to what he thought was the correct direction. He saw something in the corner of his eye as he made a right turn. I saw him turn and then saw the same thing he saw, in the corner of my eye. It was the finish! Jeff turned right passed it. Finish address was 2491. Jeff said he read 2941 instead(which would explain he quick turn right). I screamed his name twice over. More riders were coming, so I turned my goods into the finish. 1st Overall.

Jeff strolled in after 3 more guy turned in. He saw the finish! He was one left turn from first overall. Instead he made the dreadful right. 2nd in group B. 5th Overall. Not bad Jeff, not bad at all for your first alleycat. Great goods to boot.

Bikesafer checking his camera. He rode the whole race with the helmet cam. Should be some sweet vid.

Good crowd showed up gor a great cause. Each peep ended up bringing at least 5 food items to the finish.

One by one they showed up at the finish.

Cranksgiving brings food for Thanksgiving.

I tried the hardass look all night. You know, the look you give when your doing something you can do in your sleep. Truth is, I was stoked! And so was Jeff.

IRO frame and fork, Manhattan Portage Bag, Milwaukee cog and lockring, and two T's. Not bad for for a race with an entry fee consisting of non-perishable food. Cranksgiving info here. More pics here.

Half-A-Commute

Don't ever leave home without your pit juice(This week's lesson). I always manage to at least once per month forget to slap on the pit juice before I leave home. In any normal circumstance one might be able to get through the day without it. However, in my case I wouldn't survive. Everyday I have at least a 45min ride at the start and a 45min ride back home. Randomly sprinkle shorter commutes in between depending on the day, and you can bet on some proper stink.

In the case of yesterday, I forgot. So I decided to pull to the side of the road and apply the advertised stick in the pic above(they had better send me something for this).

1st attempt at the always difficult "Kerkove shot". I still need some work.

North Avenue rough road that doesn't seem too rough anymore. I wonder why?

I always make sure to at least wave "Hi" as I pass Trixie's students. That is if I can't actually stop and enjoy lunch with the wife.

2nd attempt. I think I may be holding the camera a little too high.

Endura Camo - Get some.

UWM Bike Parking. If someone out there could do me the favor and hit me up via fixedgeargus@gmail.com on November 30th that would be great. I will need a reminder - I have to renew my monthly parking permit before December hits...hehehe.

Wisconsin will Represent

Trans Iowa(link to the left) is officially in the lens for 2009. The bro and I will once again give it a try. The most exciting thing about TI is the other peeps on the official race roster. You know who you are, and you know who you're going to be. We can't wait to say "hi" and "what's up?!". We can't wait to say "nice to meet you" either.

Wisconsin will represent! No doubt about that. Wisconsin! Nebraska! Iowa! Michigan! ...! When your powers combine....

The Snow has Come

Commute home was a nice 27 degrees with some blizzard like snow for the first mile or two(East Side of Milwaukee). I was smiling all the way home folks. Smiling because the bike rode perfectly, I spun the tire twice leaving stop lights, passed car after car on 27th street and I stayed comfortable the whole way home. The first snow has fallen. The first snow has fallen.

Get your groove on, and enjoy the winter riding.

The Fab Six

Russell created an awesome day on the bike. Scavenger hunt/alleycat was the platform. Teams of six with at least one Wauwatosa local MoFo(Pat, you were the MoFo of MoFo's!). Follow a mapped course that was perfectly marked on the real course with properly placed arrows. While in route look for "Have You Seen Me?" posters. Once found, take one picture with at least three team members in frame. Also, look for bonus opportunities.

Bonus - Find the tombstone, a dog pooping, a golfer, Big man with a little dog, roadkill, city bus, white dog, owner carrying poop... Make a human pyramid at the 50 yard line on the High School's football field, moon the Amtrak train, get a pic of a po-po's citation book and so on... I think you get the idea. Each bonus item needed at least two team members in the frame.
The Fab Six - Tour of 'Tosa Champions - Kyle, Yours truly, Jay, Pat, Nate, Aris.

Have you Seen Me?

The creator himself out on course.

Tombstone is in the upper left of this pic. (yup, there is only one)

Tombstone.

Lady carrying poop.

Golfer (click to make biggy)

Big man with a little dog.

Dog pooping.

Up and down stairs all day. Fixie on slicks was the bike of choice(Is there any other way?). It made the day even more fun. You should try it some time.

Chasing down the city bus - Bus + 2 peeps - Bonus!

Cop and citation.

One more po-po for good measure while Russell tallies up the pints to see what three teams make the finals...

Top three teams made it to the finals, which was a figure 8 relay race on junk yard bikes! Banana seat Schwinn with coaster brake and crooked cranks, lady's 10 speed that was too small for Nate, a Roadmaster without a rear brake, and a single speed cruiser were the race bikes to choose from.
The kicker was that a bike tire was your team's baton and you couldn't ride the same bike two laps in a row. Three teams w/4 bikes - 20 laps. I hope someone got this on vid cause it was a riot!
When it was a said and done, we won the figure 8 relay by one half lap to take home the Tour of 'Tosa title.
I am ready to do this again tomorrow if anyone is up for it. Thanks Russell for a Suhweet day on the bike! Thanks to the Fab Six. Y'all were faBulous.

The "O"...err...GQ

Here is The "O"'s premier(remember, I warned you). Iceman not only brought some great riding, but some great laughs.

The night after the race, The "O" knocked on our hotel door. He'd strike a pose and Trixie would fall to the ground laughing as she closed the door. Repeat. Two poses later I got the idea to grab the camera. The "O" turned it up a notch once the flash started flickering. Little did he know it would show up on the blog and get emailed to GQ.

Tomorrow becomes a super fun time on the Fixie for the Tour of 'Tosa.

Post Iceman

Snagged this just after Dar and The "O" crossed the line.

Dis be da Peters.

We wait for Bishop, then Bishop flies by.

Aris "I'm Faster, but not richer, Than You" Peters was $45 dollars richer. I was $50. He beat me by 12minutes. Hmmmm?

WI contingent

MurphyKate hoisting the trophy that Aris so badly wish he had...Next year.
The "O" pajama photo shoot is in the final editing stages. Look for the onesie pics in the very near future.
News on the EXPO front! You'll just have to wait.

The Iceman Race

Clicky to See Aris
Aris didn't disappoint in his first attempt at the Expert field...2009 will have him up in the WORS overall no doubt.

I felt great at the end...Time wasn't super, but I had the awesomest time! Passing, descending, climbing, hammering it out in the last 9 miles. So fun.

John G 16th out of 112 in his class. Way to go!
DAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bbones was able to hang with Murphy Kate (The women's Junior CHAMP!!!!!) for the first 12miles which ain't too bad. He took 3rd in All Men 12-14. His first ever Iceman.

Jordan took 7th. Quite possibly the youngest Iceman finisher in this year's race. Just as the MC said when JDubs crossed the finish line..."Look out for this kid!, He is smooth!"

Sue had the biggest smile on her face the entire race. This was her second Iceman finish, 2009 will also be big for her with some possible WORS races added to her schedule...

Kathy G Killed it! She took 3rd in a field of 21 women. She was only 38 seconds out of second!

The "O" was Dar's Domestique for the day, and I think he allowed himself to have his most fun ever on a bike because of it.

Post Race pics to come....
