EXPO Racing 2011 T is being sold as a fundraiser for our trip to the MTB National Championships in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Trixie and I will be taking as many as 12 Juniors on this year's trip. Every dollar counts, so get your orders in. We need to sell these babies fast. Last year's T's were 90% sold off by the end of Subaru Cup's Saturday.

If you are not going to be at Subaru Cup and want yours, you need to comment on this exact POST! I will only hold shirts to people who make direct arrangements with me in the comment section below.

Otherwise, it is first come, first serve. at the 2011 Subaru Cup

A select number of women's and men's tanks, youth sizes and Flat Bill caps will also be available.

Sales will start officially Saturday morning in the expo area of the Subaru Cup. If you can catch me in person at Mt. Morris Thursday or Friday, I might be able to hook you up.

WORS #2 Up Nort Der Eh, A lot of "Firsts"

Huge thunder claps Saturday night gave some of the early racers a slightly muddy course... Let us be thank full for the great Wisconsin trails that drain as good as they do. The second the Cat 2 racers were off, most of the course was blazing. Yup, EXPO was talking hard core about the team trip to MTB Nationals... News and updates to follow steady and frequent on that front. Yeah... Excited.

WORS #2 Up Nort Der Eh. A lot of "firsts"

Emily Shull shows up to the WORS #2 Crystal Lake Classic in Rhinelander looking all business in her new Oakley Split Jackets. Was it her Oakleys or was it a matter of time? Regardless, she killed it. Did I say killed it?... Let me say it again, She killed it! 1st Overall in the Cat 2 Women's class. 1st Overall. Rhinelander's course layout had the Cat 2 riders doing 2 longer laps opposed to the traditional 3. Emily came through after lap one in 1st only 15seconds ahead of 2nd overall... Mad props to you Emily. She held off the entire Cat 2 women's field on lap 2 to take the overall victory by 26 seconds.

Riley Kopesky shows to race with come custom Ergon Tube Socks and the new GS2 Leichtbau grips to earn his best WI race result to date - 3rd Overall in Cat 2 (Sport). He was on it hard from the start. I saw him fly through the start/finish tucked in... He looked fast! Little did I know a big fat "3" was in his Overall column. He is really off to a great start this season - 3 wins in 3 races (WORS #1, WEMS 6hr Duo and WORS #2).

Liz Shull was 10 seconds away from providing EXPO with THE come back. 3 lap race. Lapping through for the last time I yelled 2:30 back! She looked solid... But most know a 2 minute gap in any WORS race is tough. Liz proved that idea wrong real quick. She ended the day in 2nd of the Cat 1 Juniors only 10.6seconds back from 1st. EXPO motto - Keep Press'n On. What a come back!!!

Fast forward to 2011, his sis rides his gold Homegrown and he attaches a three digit number plate. In his first Cat 1 Junior race he looked smooth and finished with a strong 7th. His winter efforts showed at Iola.

"his sis" = Anna Poulton = EXPO Racing's newest member = Yeah, she took 1st Overall in Cat 3 women at Iola = We are so stoked to have her on board!!!!!!!!!! She missed WORS #2 because she qualified for the Illinois state track championship in the 4x100 relay team. Legit.

Yo yo. What an absolutely amazing time it was catching up with the WORS faithful. There is something about Wisconsin mountain bikers that I have yet to see anywhere else in the country. The camaraderie and vibe you get from a WORS race is unmatched and by far the one constant I can hold on to over the summer. I guess I could even say, at this point, I don't care how high these darn gas prices get...

And how about those EXPO Juniors?!?! 12 to be exact made the trip to Iola, and a staggering 8 of those 12 got on the BOX!!!!! Yes that is true, 8! Two wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, and a 4th. I would have to say, one of, if not the best starts EXPO Racing has ever had.

Yes, I know, a few names are a bit new to the list... We could not be happier with the addition of both Jan Warren and Brett Poulton to EXPO Racing. These two kids have been putting some crazy training sessions. Jan has completed only his 3rd Cat 2 race with his 3rd place at Iola since he started racing WORS at the beginning of last year. He has simply bolted his way up the ranks and is really looking forward to some of EXPO's July events...

Brett Poulton comes EXPO Racing with loads of racing experience. Yes, he is a junior and I did just say that. I have been watching this kid since he was a little twerp on his(my dreamy) Gold Schwinn Homegrown. He would tear up the Citizen Youth Series like no one's business. When you buy a Drawing Ticket you will be entered into a Drawing for a SET of Hayes Stroker Disc Brakes. Word on the street is there may be a fork added to the drawing as well... Be sure to stop by the tent to see all the $$$ items that make it into the Give Away.

Sunburst preps for Nats...

Andy aka EXPO Prodigy ups the weekly intensity and throws out his first win of the season, and a top 10 overall. Seems to be perfectly timing out his push for a National Championship. Yeah, he is coming with us to Nationals.

I am sure you a wish you knew what the Shull Sisters were doing during the week... Emily won her group and took 7th overall in the Sport Women.

Riley was fresh off the Trek 100 the day before, gets on his first podium of his season: 3rd. I guess some people can handle an XC race the day after a century...

Liz Shull races Jr. X, but goes off with the Pro Women. 15th Overall within the Pro and Cat 1 Women.

It wasn't the best weekend for the EXPO juniors racing in the Jr. X class. However, Kyle was able to keep EXPO on the BOX. So far this season, if Kyle toes the line he gets on the BOX. Consistency will be key in this year's series results. This Junior group this year is just too talented.

What has been going on since Sunburst? Well, the Shulls, Myles(5th in 6hr) and Aris(3rd in 3hr) did work at the 12hrs of John Muir and Nate is working towards a top 5 in the cat4 Tour of America's Dairyland.

Up NEXT: Subaru Cup and the Midwest Regional Championships. Look for EXPO in the Consumer Expo throughout the weekend. We will be selling T-shirts, tickets and decals to raise money to help send our EXPO Juniors out to MTB Nationals in Granby, CO. What are the tickets for? We will throw those into a hat for some legit Hayes and Sram goodies, I mean legit! Much much info and details to come! Stay tuned.

A few pics here and a few pics there. WORS #3 - Trek Big Ring Classic was a blast, as it always is.

No fly on the tent always means good things. Buckwheat at least stays when told(when we are watching).

Jordan aka JDubs rode much faster on his new Jay build. Kona, Sun Ringle, Hayes, Answer, and Ergon make this bike scream to be rode fast. Jordan did! Jay built this beauty from scratch on the Friday before the weekend!

Off the front is what we can say now. Myles put it down to dominate the Junior field... The entire COMP class for that matter. 2nd Overall! 16seconds back from 1st overall and 2minutes OVER the entire rest of the COMP field.

WORS #2 Keeps it Coming

Chris Schmidt, father of the boy named Andy, shows us exactly how he is trying to get Andy ready for the big races coming up this year. Chris took his Gary Fisher to a 1st in age and 1st overall. Chris and Andy both can be considered relatively new to the sport, and show quite a drive and focus of what you would normally see in seasoned mountain bikers.

How fitting that Andy be caught on pic with a Bonty banner behind. As you may have read about Andy's misfortune in a previous post, Andy was in need of some new hoops. What to do? Then, all of a sudden, I get this magic email from a man named Matt Gehling. He made sure there was some Xlite wheels with proper Rhinelander rubber waiting for the Schmidts upon their Saturday arrival. Andy managed a 4th in age to sneak onto the box to make it two trips to the podium in a row. Thanks again Matt!

Caleb Lenss rocked it for WORS #2. Off the front with Nate on his wheel. And after Nate's performance at Iola, one would be worried to have Nate on your backside. Combine Caleb's form and Nate's loose skewer... Caleb was gone! He was gone with a 5th overall COMP time.

John G is rocking out the WORS season this year. Two in a row and is getting closer and closer to crossing the line ahead of some old man trying to manage his rusty tool shed. John took 7th in his COMP age class and 59th overall. 7min off the old man's time.

Ahh! Yes you are seeing it here and now! The Shull family has jumped on the EXPO crew. Emily will rock out her Clif kit until we can rush her some women's specific from our friends at Endura. She will represent in the Sport class at 15. I tell you what, 2nd age and 18th overall... If her sister Liz can be any indication of Emily's potential... Look out.

Liz Shull is EXPO's first Junior Elite woman. She is faaast! To finish inside the top ten of the women's elite field at only 16, is scary. She did it at Iola. Just days after her top ten, she throws on an EXPO kit. To boot, she runs Ergon. Team Editions are on their way!

New faces leaves more room for face time. Liz and Emily will be getting plenty of it. Talks have already begun to have these two come out to CO with us to compete at the national level... Ha, as if WORS isn't that already!

What a pic. The entire podium (4 of 5 EXPO) has times fast enough to make the top 10 overall in the COMP field. Sick, right? Just look how WORS cash hungry err, jealous the boys are of Caleb's winnings.

Could this be the EXPO squad for Moab? What a question... How crazy is it going to be to watch that develop over the summer?

Not pic'd: Who could forget Brandon getting on the box riding his new Trek? Jay shoots him a pre-race strategy talk, wala. Improve something like 80 spots his sport overall result from Iola to Rhinelander and take 3rd in his age... Can't wait to see him at WORS #3. Can't wait to see you all!

EXPO bike gets Hurt

So I get a sad sad sad email regarding the health of a teammate's bike. The lesson that can learned here, I don't know...

"Driving 2 blocks away from our house, the wind had blown some tree branches down on some phone lines. These lines happened to be low enough to close-line Andy's bike and rip it and the Thule Rack off the top of the car. Trashed his Race X Lite wheels, hydraulic brake cables, and remote fork cable (not to mention the rack and the top of the car!). We’ve recovered emotionally. Now it's time for Verizon to cut the check!"

To the Schmidt family, We feel your pain and promise Andy will be happy on whatever the steed thrown together for this weekend's race. When your powers combine...

Iola kicks it EXPO Style'

The EXPO Junior cat1/2 peeps at the start of WORS #1, Iola. A huge group of kids that chose to blow each other to shreds after the first section of climbs. I absolutely loved seeing it. Watching them hang prior to start like the crew I know, then once the infamous "GoooOOOOO!" reaches their ears it was go time. Faces went to pro and it was time to see who brought their legs to the start of the mountain biking season. Nate was off the front(and would stay there!) with Kyle keeping the gap within 1 minute for most of the race. Then after those two it was cut-throat. Myles had to fight lap traffic and some fast kid from a team in blue to take 4th. Caleb fought hard to come oh-so-close to getting on the box. To be able to walk into a 7th place last year versus fighting for your life to get a 7th this years goes to show how hot the Junior scene is this for 2010.

Looking at the faces of Nate and Kyle in this pic taken by velogrrl at the finish will always keep you on an even mindset. Once the top two spots were sealed with the EXPO Badge (Nate 1, Kyle 2) it was all smiles. You can tell EXPO is out to have a good year.

EXPO Prodigy, Andy Schmidt, showed everyone he is here to stay. A U14 field that was 15 deep and littered with 12, 13 and 14 year old's was sure to pose a threat to Andy's second year racing and his first Citizen race to boot. The 10year old grabbed the 3rd highest spot on the box and place 26th overall. All I can say is look out Colorado... Andy will come ready to race US XC Nats.

What does 2009 US 13-14 Cyclocross National Champion Ian Haupt do in his off season? Rip up the Sport field as he works his singletrack skills. One thing is for sure, Cyclocross legs easily transfer to the mountain bike. Ian took second in the Sport U14 age and 10th Overall. He is most certainly off to a great start.

All in all the, EXPO Nation threw 12 into the almost 850 racer mix at WORS #1. I think we came out pretty good. And what a blast it was to see a the people that can be associated with a Mountain Biking weekend in WI. 2010 is going to be fun.

My 44 Miles of Trans Iowa

I was so geeked for this year's Trans Iowa. My legs seemed to be healed and my mind was in the right place. I had the proper Endura gear to honestly get me through anything, which it did... However, in not enough time. 4am start meant we had 4 hours to go 44 miles. No sweat, right?

If you look closely, I managed to stay with the lead group for the first 100yards. I was feeling good, really good. I was even in front of strong men Eric Brunt and Cornbread!

Some where between the picture above and the picture below, all hell broke loose. We were able to ride through the most beautiful thunder and lightening storm I have ever set my eyes on. I have never felt so small and so not-in-control. The rain came down quite hard, I stopped and blew 5minutes putting on my rain gear and pulling out the Ergon pack's rain fly. To me it was worth it... However, at the time, I was thinking I was going to have to survive 30hours of this.

The gravel was like peanut butter. The tires felt flat. what would be 15mph on a dry day was 7, 8 and 9mph on T.I. day.

The hills... Close to 2000ft gained in 44miles per my new Timex WS4. Made it super tough to create and maintain a group. So it was a solo yoyo morning in the dark.

By 7am I knew I would have to average 13mph to still make the checkpoint on time. No problem right? Just do it. No joke, I made a turn around the corner and saw THE B Road! Crap. This was going to be the first time in all of my Trans Iowa attempts, that the clock was going to take me out. Going into it, I never even factored time into the mix... I will next year, and I will show with the proper EB type legs.

At least I was able to catch up to the Ari (he has pics too!) and his crew, Dan and Russ. Awesome amazing peeps to ride out the last few stressless miles. The math doesn't lie. Need to average 13mph for one hour was not going to happen when you can only push your 40lb mud bike 2-3mph... Why not relax and enjoy the rest of the way to CP1 with some great peoples.

Even when it looked safe to try, it would suck your tire right in. If you didn't have your shoes on tight, it was sure to eat your shoe.

I wasn't lying. Awesome peeps. Nothing like toasting the B-Road.

The pack after CP1, It was a heave one... I'm going to spread some of the weight to a seat post rack come Trans Wisconsin.

Theo and Trixie waited it out for me all morning... I felt so bad, cause last year I made it to CP1 with the leaders in just 2 hours... It just goes to show you what a little rain and hills can do to a T.I. attempt.

The bike rode flawlessly. It was an amazing ride. The only change to be made for the next endurance ride... new/different map reader, and the addition of a seat-post rack mount(any suggestions?)

All in all Trans Iowa always manages to be the best ride and the most memorable one of the year. I can not wait until next year... I can not wait until Trans Wisconsin... I can not wait to start posting on our EXPO Juniors! Please stay tuned for tons of sweet pics and videos of mountain biking's new pros. Drove it out west to find some gravel today. Managed a simple 30miles to help dial in a few items. I found myself in love with the Ergon GX3 barend. So much so, that I rarely ever touched the green stuff. So I took off the 100mm stem and slapped on a 110mm. Bam, perfect. Found a feed basket at the Bicycle Doctor which I am pretty stoked about. This should aid in feeding without getting dropped.

Sigh... I am starting to get quite excited for this thing called Trans Iowa. Bike has never been so comfortable. My legs seem to be much better that year's past. I found Tanka Bars to taste so amazing, I will fill my pack the hot ones for sure. Test Battery life of my Stella as I type(4 hours and counting on high...) Oh yeah, I sighed. Yeah. I'm nervous. I want to finish this thing!

What can I say? It is pretty raw when you have two guys that not only ride EXPO's purple sleeve, but hold such talent in the imaging world as well. Joe Horvath and Jeff Frings certainly gave the EXPO Juniors a taste of what it is like to rock a pro team. Photo Shoot was legit with laughs and the usual down time associated with such a task. It was a blast.

Got up early this AM to drop the 4Runner off at Toyota for leather, heated seats and remote start. Smooth drop off, but wow are they busy with recalls! Rental car provided is a VW mini van(good or bad dream?).

Loaded up the body with two pant layers and three top layers. Answer MTB shoes and Endura head and hands. Perfect set-up for the 30 degree weather. Managed one solid hour on the fixie. I can not tell you enough how excited I was to actually forget what hamstring was the one that used to keep my off the bike in 2009. As peeps prep for 24hr races, I keep my eyes set on tomorrow - 1+ hour.

Today is my first day as Elm Creative Arts School's "Artist-in-Residence". As for the live feed, I connected the video camera to the projector to be able to show the camera and my nose hairs up close without the need of 30 cameras.

The goal: Introduce Digital Cameras to the masses and learn students and staff how to upload and access photos on school computers. Finished product: ABC's of Art at Elm book to be created by 4th graders.

Free time: After I submit this post - Get to work on an 2009 EXPO video.

Not so sorry to say, but anything and everything that Ergon has ever put out has worked like a dream. Let's all drool...

The team put forth for the WORS team competition was 100% comprised of EXPO Juniors. I couldn't be more proud of them this year. In the Mid-sized Team Division they were able to take a 2nd place in the points competition and a 1st place in the participation competition. Just another payoff for all the hard work you all put in on the Monday - Friday. Of course the Rents too!

Lets start off with....that course is rough...real rough. It was a nice start. Didn't want to run as fast as I could because Carlos and Glenn were there and are way faster than me. Didn't wanna slow them up and got into 5th or so. Carlos didn't get told which way to go and hopped on the 6 and 12 hour course. Caught me half way through that lap and got away in singletrack. Caught him on the long flats before the end of the lap. Got in front of him before the lap and he caught me back halfway through that lap again. Never saw him again (he is nuts... I swear this guy has no fear. he is jumping rocks and popping his back tire up over stuff like nothing, not to mention he is carving through this stuff like butter) Was running third then at the start of the 3rd lap and got a gel from Sandi. Was eating it and couldn't finish it before the wicked downhill so it was in my mouth. Tried eating it with one hand on the bar and wiped out on a sharp rock. Now it looks like I have a egg coming out of my leg and my arm and hip are sore as well. Matt Gissibl caught me after an early flat for him. We rode together for a little bit and I let him by. Then on the flats again I caught him again. Right on his wheel as now we could see dad. Then less than a minute later....flatted. Ran about 50 yards to the open and changed it. It was about 8 minutes or so before the next 3 hour guy came through. Went as hard as I could with the energy I had left. Felt like a pretty fast lap. Caught fellow EXPO teammate John on the last hill and past him about 1/4 mile before the finish.. Finished strong. Another good race...hopefully this keeps going. A solid 5th. Dad had a 16 minute lead in the 6 hour race...and went out to do another lap. Only guy with 6 laps in the 6 hour. Pretty sick trophy for him. Bad luck for Myles in his race (this kid was only 3 minutes back of him and had one of the top lap times in the 6 hour). Thanks to the Steve and company for support.

Please notice the "Skidmark" sighting on the left sidebar. Click-it and you will see a little write-up tossed in with a couple pics of our ride at John Muir/Connector/Emma yesterday (Not to mention much press coverage of "The Boy" ^above^ - Nate.). Good times. Two flats in my group had us thinking safety > Bail on the connector and get closer to the pit. Which worked out for the better. I managed to finish the ride and have a clean hamstring day. If every day can give me good news, then I'm sure to get back in the mix soon.

Casey Casey - On the Box - Trek Border Battle

I had a good start as I went up the hill and got into the jam in the singletrack. Dad was 4 or 5 bikes infront of me. Nate was behind him, then me with mitch right behind, and caleb and myles 5 or so behind us. We were talking in the singletrack. After it cleared out a little i was just chasing nate. We caught him on the 2nd field part and passed him. Me, Mitch, then Nate with eachother and they were looking strong. We rode that group till the end of the first lap. On the hill they dropped off i think. A little into the 2nd lap Jenna Reinhart was in the back of our group of a few expert guys. I let her pass me right before the last part of singletrack for that lap and followed her lines closely. Was right on her wheel up the hill and into the singletrack she got away. After both laps when I got to the top of the hill I could hear Don saying "here come Caleb Lenss and Myles Beach coming through." I started thinking of where I was during the last lap and just keep riding faster. I was pumped coming out of the woods and sprinted all the way through the finish. First podium ever. Must of been the ergon socks. Went for cool down with Caleb and then dad after he was done. It was a much more enjoyable ride home than normal.

EXPO Rider Jeff Frings aka BikeSafer, decided to leave me with two whitey tighty boxes after his stellar finish at the WORS Alterra Coffee Bean Classic. I have to admit that they sat uncovered in our kitchen until just a few days ago... Wierd eh? Once I opened the beauties my eyes lit up. Clif Gatorade?!?!?! YES! These beauties of "Non-Adhesive Labels" are 100% recyclable. After drinking of course. I am quite excited to possibly kick Gatorade off of its throne and out of my water bottles.

Taste test is sure to come once I gather up all of its competitors (including Kwik-Ade). YouTube in the nearest of futuristic days...

EXPO Racing takes 3rd Overall at 24-9

What true superb effort put out by the EXPO Racing juniors. The team con Cameron Chambers (-CC-) and the WORS veterans were the only teams to top them. It was such a battle and truly a "race" for 2nd - 4th place overall (check out how the race played out here)

They were rock solid all night long. Consistent for 24:30:00. The biggest of thanks goes out to Scott Cole for lending Myles his StumpJumper 29er and helmet light. The entire EXPO pit crew for keeping our racers fed, hydrated, prepped and motivated. The Lenss crew for creating a "Red Bud" like atmosphere all race long, and everyone else for press'n EXPO on.

Ergon was awesome(three of four were rigid) and the Endura kits kept the boys comfortable. Clif fed them out on course and Jeremey's Burger Haus filled them in the pits. Oakley kept the trail view clean. Please click the sidebar links for product info and more 24-9 stories... there will be alot more to come.

You truly had to be there to see it. EXPO Juniors really showed that the sport of endurance racing is just waiting for a junior movement.

Tuesday was certainly action packed. What a day to put in the books. Amazing drive, A helpful crew, A nice pre-ride(one tire wash-out), and a base camp we honestly could not have dreamed up.

The last two up Tuesday AM - North Platte, NE.

First stress of the day - getting all of this to fit for the final leg through the mountains.

Billy was so relieved to finally get out of that trailer.

Meticulously unpack - save every ounce of padding. Not a one single scratch, dent, scuff, or broken part. I was amazed.

The peeps are saying the Non-Pro course is even harder - 8+ miles. Single track climb up a face, then descend, climb same face, descend, repeat, repeat. No switchback, just up down up down. No time for rest.

Matt Gissibl calls me up - "Hey! wanna go on a ride?". Yessir! Matt rides from his crib to mine where Jdubs and myself are 90% ready. We finally get west...Oooh - Road closed..."Should we go this way?" Matt would say, "Yeah". Ahh yes, the classic yeah-ride. What was supposed to be a nice 26mile workout for my leg and Jdubs, turned out to a 49mile mini-epic (I am guessing around 70 for Matt). Major props goes out to Jordan for rocking the single speed all day long!

I have Brandon and Jordan on the Fixedgeargus Training Boot Camp which, I have to say, is quite difficult. 20-30minute criterium format workouts mid ride has these kids throwing major attitudes out their mouths and into the cranks. Best part is - they see the light at the end of the tunnel and Keep Press'n On. Hang in there guys!

My hammy is tight, real tight, but I have been easing into it with some success (I think...We'll see...)

So I get this random call yesterday. It's Oakley. They noticed I didn't get my case for my white pair of Jawbones... Ha! Their web dude saw the youtube video. They were just calling to confirm my adress. My "missing" case will ship monday. Gotta love the intraweb.
